I’ve been patiently waiting for the day when Gracie is old enough to snuggle up with me in jim jams and watch a whole movie in its entirety, especially the ones I used to love myself when I was a little girl- you can’t beat a bit of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (who’s with me?!).
There’s just something rather special about sharing your favourite childhood films with your own little carbon copy, isn’t there? Well, that time is finally here and it happens to have come at the most perfect time of all because this preggo Mama has certainly been feeling a little more tired recently, and coupled with this cold rainy weather spell we’ve been having in London, the movie afternoons have been a little bit more frequent then they probably should be if I’m totally honest!
With movie dates now finally on the cards and our new baby on his/her way (eeeeep!), I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve already gone into fully fledged ‘nesting mode’. It is a thing, I promise.
You see, back when we had our son Grayson (which seems like a lifetime ago!), we felt it was really important to make sure our home was lovely and snug in the lead up to his arrival, we knew we’d be spending a lot more time at home. This time around, I guess it’ll be even more of a military operation to leave the house with two little ones in tow, so once again, I’m predicting lots more days at home. All I want to do now before Mini Michalak’s arrival, is make each room in our home as comfortable and pretty as it can possibly be, and although we have a big move out of London on the cards in the next few months, and I should probably have waited, I just couldn’t resist a cheeky little homeware splurge for our bedroom.
We like to try and keep our bedroom kind of minimal and calm, a place where we can go to relax and wind down. As my husband Stef and I both work from home, I suppose one of the most important things for us is to create a space that doesn’t feel like a we are at work- this can be rather tricky sometimes and is definitely one of the downsides to working from home together! So this is what I set out to do…
One of the first and best upgrades we made, was getting a HUGE Casper mattress. This may sound overly dramatic, but this mattress has literally changed our lives! It is beyond what we previously classed as comfortable, and we actually look forward to going to bed each night. It’s so huge that we can pleasantly co-sleep with Grayson, and I’ll be honest – the patter of his feet in the hallway each night used to mean that we would all end up squashed up and having a patchy sleep. Those days are long gone now- we can pretty much all starfish without even touching each other, and that equals absolute bliss for the co-sleeping parent, let me tell you! If you are a parent yourself, you will know yourself how precious your sleep becomes, and with mini Michalak number 2 coming along, we know we only have a few months left of uninterrupted sleep, so we are going to treasure every single night. The only thing is the Casper does make getting out of bed in the mornings that little bit harder…
Let’s talk decor a little bit then shall we? I’ve gone for a blush and grey theme this time, my guilty pleasure in life being the home-wear section in Oliver Bonas, I literally adore every thing in there and if I had my way, our house would look like the lovechild of Oliver Bonas and Anthropologie. In defence of my little splurge, I think not drinking for the last few months or buying any non-preggo clothes has probably saved us enough money to re-vamp the entire house!
Throw– I’ve been lusting over a pom pom throw pretty much since the moment I discovered Pinterest, and this was simply solidified when I stumbled across Mary Lauren’s Instagram. So when I spotted this blush and grey one on the pristinely arranged shelves of OB, I knew it simply had to come home with me – show me a pom-pom and I’ll show you my purse!
Fluffy cushion– I know this one is a little bit ridiculous, and I’ll admit not something I would normally choose, but how pretty is it?! Don’t even get me started on how soft this feels, and I just love the way it adds an extra layer of texture to our bed too.
Lamp – Who can resist a rose gold side lamp?! Clearly not me. This one gives off the perfect amount of light to read with, yet still remaining rather ambient and giving a nice golden glow, it’s made such a lovely addition to our room.
Okay, I know I’ve made the bedroom possibly a touch more feminine than Stef perhaps would have chosen himself, (although saying that, I’m pretty lucky that he actually enjoys the softness and the textures), but as long as we have the Casper in our lives I don’t think he really cares what I put in there!
I hope you liked having a little peak into our bedroom, I know I’ve enjoyed giving it a mini-makeover! It’s so nice to have just a few little homeware updates to refresh a room for Spring, don’t you think?
*This is not an advert! We are just totally in love with our current bedroom set up 🙂
